In life we can easily be pulled in many different directions… your family needs this, your friend needs that, you can’t be late to work one more time, don’t forget about that big paper due on Friday, oh be sure to fill your body with all whole foods, the laundry & dishes are piling up, the bills need to be paid, you need to exercise for goodness sake, it’s already 11pm?!… have you even thought about yourself today?  It’s really easy to get wrapped up in the chaos of life and the demands of others, leaving you overwhelmed and run down.  When we try to give and serve others but have not taken care of ourselves first it often times creates feelings of hopelessness, resentment, bitterness, frustration, or exhaustion.

This is where the importance of self-care comes in!  I believe self-care is crucial for EVERYONE but also looks different for each individual.  The purpose of self-care is to take time for yourself to do things that will fill you up, bring you joy, and essentially create emotional, physical, and spiritual peace & balance in your life.  What gives one person a breath of fresh air might give another person a panic attack or what one person finds relaxing another person might find extremely boring.  It is important to discover what fills YOU up and gives YOU life, love, energy, peace, joy, etc.

Self-care can take a wide variety of forms.  Some people love to journal, read, or go for a walk by themselves.  Other people may like to listen to music, go to coffee with a friend, take a bubble bath, or experiment with a new recipe.  The point is that you are taking time out of your day to do something for YOURSELF so you can in turn treat and love yourself and others better.

My challenge to you, for the month of November, is to take at least 15 minutes every day to take care of yourself.  Discover what self-care looks like for you and start to practice it each and everyday.  I believe that living a healthy lifestyle does not just mean you workout 5 times a week and eat all whole foods.  I am a firm believer that health is holistic.  Our mental health is just as important as our physical health.  We need to learn to take care of our minds, hearts, and souls just as much as we need to learn how to take care of our bodies.

So please, don’t neglect yourself and your needs.  Join me in this No Neglect November Challenge to learn how to care for yourself and become more content.
